The Task Force and its
Mission
The Tri-State
AIDS Task Force is a non-profit community-based organization
that opearates under the West Virginia Bureau of Public Health.
The Task Force serves six counties: Lincoln, Mason, Cabell,
Wayne, Mingo, and Logan. (For other States or West Virginia
Counties by see our Links pages)
Over
twenty years ago, concerned citizens and agencies came together
in response to the impact AIDS was making on he lives of our
friends and loved ones. The "grassroots" efforts
expanded to form two organizations, Huntington AIDS Task Force
and the Minority AIDS Council. With a belief that a single
HIV/AIDS prevention and service organization would provide a
more comprehensive and stronger presence in this region, the
two organizations merged in 1996 to become the Tri-State AIDS
Task Force, serving six counties throughout the region.
Our accomplishments
in this area are significant, but we are continually striving
to inform the community and prevent the spread of HIV. We continue
to provide prevention, outreach and awareness activities among
populations which are unaware of their risks for contracting
HIV.
